Thank you, MTAC & USPS

MTAC

November 24, 2015

As we acknowledge all that we have to be thankful for, we would be remiss if we did not include the Postmaster General’s Mailers Technical Advisory Committee (MTAC). It has been with us for 50 years now, and the Alliance of Nonprofit Mailers has been an active member for 35 years. As a committee of associations representing all types of mailing customers and mailing industry participants, MTAC is a major reason that the United States Postal Service (USPS) leads the world in mail volume, efficiency and effectiveness. MTAC is a prime example of a very successful public-private partnership that has stood the test of time.

Every member association designates an executive and three mailing participant representatives. The Alliance has benefited from many great representatives in the spirit of service and altruism that is emblematic of our nonprofit members. One of the best just announced his retirement and we had a chance to recognize him at last week’s MTAC meeting: Dennis Kaylor.

We also thank the USPS for playing an indispensable role in the lives and successes of many, many nonprofits in the U.S.

Americans donated $358 billion to charities last year, much of it in response to direct mailings, periodical subscriptions, and multi-channel programs that include mail as a centerpiece. And many of the donations were sent to the nonprofits through First Class Mail. A recent list reported by Target Marketing has nonprofits as 10 of the top 50 USPS mailers. The USPS deserves significant credit for helping nonprofits achieve their good works and much-needed missions.
