The Postal Service announced this morning that Louis DeJoy requested that the Governors begin a search for his successor. The announcement is here: https://about.usps.com/newsroom/national-releases/2025/0218-usps-announces-tenure-plan-of-pmg-louis-dejoy.htm

DeJoy, in a letter dated Monday, told the USPS Board of Governors to begin the process of searching for a new Postmaster General. DeJoy took office on June 15, 2020.

“While there remains much critical work to be done to ensure that the Postal Service can be financially viable as we continue to serve the nation in our essential public service mission, I have decided it is time to start the process of identifying my successor and of preparing the Postal Service for this change,” DeJoy said in his letter to the Board of Governors.

The presidentially-appointed Governors have the authority to hire and fire PMGs. Six of the nine Governors positions are filled at present.
